Some Nashville landmarks were built for looking at. The Wildhorse Saloon was built for wearing out your boots.
Opened in 1994 inside a converted downtown warehouse, the Wildhorse became a three-story country-music playground with live bands, line-dancing lessons and a sprawling 3,300-square-foot dance floor. For nearly thirty years, beginners learned their first grapevine beside dancers who could turn a two-step into controlled flight.
The Wildhorse was more than another Broadway bar. It was a restaurant, concert venue, dance hall, television studio and gathering place where tourists and Nashville regulars shared the same wooden floor. Its bright bucking-horse emblem became a beacon for anyone who believed a vacation should involve cold drinks, loud country music and at least one dance move attempted with unreasonable confidence.
The original Wildhorse Saloon closed in January 2024 after almost three decades. The enormous Second Avenue building was transformed into Luke Combs’ Category 10, but the Wildhorse name, and the memories made beneath it, belong to Nashville history now.
