Trader Vic’s Hawai‘i locations helped complete the loop between mainland American tiki fantasy and the actual Pacific. By the postwar era, Hawai‘i had become both destination and mythology, feeding the booming appetite for tropical escapism that spread through restaurants, bars, hotels, and backyard luaus across America.
