Before “all-inclusive” meant a plastic wristband, it meant a Nile steamer, a donkey waiting at the ruins, and the backsheesh already handled.

By the 1870s, Thomas Cook was running scheduled journeys between Cairo and Aswan. In 1880, the company gained control of the government steamboat service and began selling the Nile as one grand, bookable adventure, complete with fixed departures, guides, monument excursions and even saddled donkeys. Victorian tourism had found its smokestack.

This tee revives the handsome Cook’s Nile Steamboat Services emblem found on the company’s turn-of-the-century stationery and mail. The paddle steamer, curling smoke and engraved river scene carry the romance of old luggage labels, grand hotels and trunks large enough to require their own itinerary.

Wear it for the history, the ship, or simply because modern cruises could use more donkeys.
