Before velvet ropes became a cliché, there was the Stork Club.
Opened by Sherman Billingsley in 1929, the legendary Manhattan nightspot became one of the defining rooms of New York café society, where movie stars, writers, politicians, socialites, and professional people-watchers gathered beneath the watchful eye of its top-hatted stork. Its celebrated Cub Room was the inner sanctum, while the address at 3 East 53rd Street became shorthand for glamour, gossip, power, and a very expensive night out. The club remained a New York institution until 1965.
This tee revives the Stork Club’s wonderfully strange mascot in a weathered, engraved style inspired by vintage matchbooks and 1930s newspaper advertising. The ivory artwork is printed with fine linework, halftone texture, and a softly distressed finish that feels less like a reproduction and more like something smuggled home from a long-lost Manhattan coatroom.
The club even inspired movies, novels, and a nationally televised series, proving that the bird knew how to work a room long before celebrity culture learned to flap its wings.
