Before coastal dining became polished and predictable, Sam’s Seafood put a giant neon swordfish over Pacific Coast Highway and built an entire South Seas fantasy beneath it.
After the original restaurant burned in 1959, the Katsaris family returned with a reported million-dollar rebuild: carved tikis, waterfall displays, glass fishing floats, pufferfish lamps, thatched A-frames and the moodily lit Hidden Village, where Friday-night Polynesian dinner shows turned supper into full-scale tropical theater.
This vintage-inspired back print resurrects the whole glorious fever dream: toucan, tropical foliage, carved idols, outrigger canoe, island horizon and a swordfish leaping toward cocktail hour. It is less a restaurant souvenir than wearable evidence from a time when seafood came with waterfalls and the sign could probably be seen from the moon.

The artwork combines authentic midcentury restaurant imagery with a warm, sun-faded coastal color palette. Sam’s began as a seaside seafood business in 1923, survived decades of reinvention and later operated under the Kona and Don the Beachcomber names.
