Black Poodle Lounge – Printer’s Alley Nashville – Vintage Tee

Before Lower Broadway became a canyon of rooftop bars and glowing cowboy hats, Nashville nightlife prowled through the narrow, neon-lit passageways of Printer’s Alley.

The Black Poodle Lounge was one of the Alley’s legendary nightspots, operating by the early 1960s alongside famous neighbors such as the Rainbow Room and VooDoo Lounge. Inside, cocktails, live bands and burlesque shared the bill, creating the slightly glamorous, slightly scandalous atmosphere that made old Printer’s Alley Nashville’s after-dark kingdom.

Rock-and-roll group The Gators regularly played the Black Poodle during the 1962–63 “Peppermint Twist” craze. The club later became closely associated with celebrated burlesque performer Heaven Lee, whose appearances there stretched into the 1980s.

Eventually, the Black Poodle disappeared and the space became the Hugh X. Lewis Country Club, but its delightfully peculiar name remains part of Printer’s Alley folklore.

Our vintage-inspired tee brings back its jaunty parasol-carrying poodle with a weathered print that looks rescued from an old backstage trunk. It is equal parts Nashville history, nightclub noir and very well-dressed dog.
